Overview
Considered as one of Uganda’s most rewarding destinations where guests explore some of the world’s renowned and ultimate primates’ “Chimpanzees”, in addition to the tranquil Ndali-Kasenda crater area. The game reserve boasts with a total of over 120 mammal species including 13 primate’s species; chimpanzee, black and white colabus monkeys as well as elephants and antelopes which are also inhabitants. The spectacular rainforest is a rich hub with over 375 bird species, while botanists would ultimate blend considering the presence of over 350 tree species that have been recorded, some of which rise to over 55m and date back to over 200 years old.
Kibale’s most popular activity is the Kanyanchu Primate Walk to track and watch the chimpanzees with the perennially popular primate walk, provides the chance to observe the habituated chimpanzees in their natural habitat with a good variety of diurnal monkeys that can be encountered. These chimps have been tracked since 1993 and the chances of locating them are excellent. Guided walks start at 8:00am and 2:00pm and last an average of three hours, depending on various factors including the terrain.
Kanyanchu’s groups are accustomed to human presence, some have been observed for over 25 years and participating guests must be aged 16 years or over at the time of booking to be offered a permit for the Chimpanzee trekking experience.
