Mt Kilimanjaro National Park
Overview
Officially, declared a natural Wonder of Africa in 2013, Kilimanjaro National Park encircles the world’s tallest free-standing mountain that hails hikers and nature enthusiasts from all over the world for an experience. Fringed by tropical rain forests rising to heath land, elevated altitude desert, and coated by snow and glaciers of the peak. The experience allows guests to embark on a hiking adventure to climb and summit the famed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Climbing to the top is a lifetime experience that no one can forget, with the mountain comprising of two dormant volcanoes (Kibo 5,895m and Mawenzi 5,149m) and one extinct volcano (Shira 3,962m) respectively. Mt Kilimanjaro ascends above the clouds, standing at an impressive 5,895 meters that offers an array of diverse habitats such as lush montane forests and an alpine desert, which allow the sparkling views of ice and snow. To the climbers but also professional movie actors, the famous film, “The Snows of Kilimanjaro (1952)” was shot from this park.
Hiking guests who want to experience the delight of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro without wishing to summit, booking a hike on the spectacular Shira Plateau can be more enriching as you get to explore these far stretching plateau stretches, upto 13 kilometers to the west of Kibo and at an elevation of 3,962 metres. The Shira Plateau shows the remains of the most dated caldera, a volcanic crater that ended around half a million years ago. Today, it boasts of its deep valleys and weather-eroded lava streams. These are wonderfully edged near the Kibo Massif, which resembles curved, modern monuments.
While as longer Mountain Climbing to the Summit, Paragliding, Nature Walking Safaris, Long Walking Safaris, Mawenzi Technical Climbing, Picnicking, filming, Non-Summit Bound Climbers, Crater Camping and Mountain Cycling offer the opportunity to witness a variety of rolling and winding landscapes, you will admire the plateau’s shiny glaciers and gravel ridges, and the Lemosho forest with lush rainforest valleys.
Why specially visit Mt Kilimanjaro National Park. Every hike promises incredible views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks on a clearer day and encounters of wildlife (elephant, eland antelope, leopards, buffalo, lions, montane birdlife) from the neighboring Amboseli National Park, across the border in Kenya.
