 True Medley of Wonders

Founded in 1952 and renamed two years later to commemorate a visit by Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, the park sets against the backdrop of the pointed Rwenzori Mountains. The park’s magnificent vistas include dozens of enormous craters carved dramatically into rolling green hills, panoramic views of the Kazinga Channel with its banks lined with hippos, leopards, buffalo and elephants, and the endless Ishasha plains, whose fig trees hide lions that are always ready to pounce on herds of unsuspecting buffalos and Uganda kob.

The park’s diverse ecosystems, which include sprawling savanna, shady, humid forests, sparkling lakes and fertile wetlands, make it the ideal habitat for classic wildlife concentration and ultimately one of the highest biodiversity ratings of any game reserve in the world, including a total of 95 recorded mammal species and more than 600 species of birds.
